This specialty program is designed for children with special needs. It is an intervention program with eligibility determined by a screening and an evaluation by an intervention team. This program follows the same curriculum as all other preschool classrooms with modifications as necessary. A snack is also included with this program. Operating hours are also the same, Monday through Friday at either 8:15-10:45 a.m. or 11:45-2:15 p.m.
The Preschool for All program is funded through a grant by the Illinois State Board of Education. It is a free intervention program for children who meet at least two eligibility requirements. After the eligibility requirements, priority must be given to four year old children before three year olds. The focus of this program is mainly language based. Pre-readiness skills are also emphasized. The program is inclusionary which services typically developing children along with children with special needs. These blended and co-teach models are designed to meet the needs of all the children by differentiating the curriculum to suit their abilities. This model has proven to be very successful for children with disabilities as they have great role models to learn from. The program also serves as a great opportunity to learn tolerance and acceptance by the typical child. The programs are considered to be general education placements with some special education support when needed. A snack is provided for all children if they choose to have one. The program meets Monday through Friday at either 8:15- 10:45 a.m. or 11:45-2:15 p.m.
